HEY guys so here is me thinking out loud!!!
If you know me personally you would know I love the Vintage outfit so much especially vintage shirts. I love to switch it up though, toss in maybe with a pair of pant, jean. Anything to make the look come out nice.
But here is the weird part. Whenever I put on vintage attire or I see someone go vintage, I automatically start envisioning myself in the 90’s or even 60’s living the life with my Afro hair, skull shoe, patterned skirt, neatly high shoulder blouse and the red lipstick. I see myself driving Ford Pinto, Volkswagen B2 car or something similar. LOL. The fun part is when we attend street parties where we just jump, shake our heads, tap our foot on the floor and call it dancing. At least there is no shaku shaku dance. PS: I still don’t know how to dance ‘’ Shaku shaku’’ but that’s alright. It is what it is lol.
Growing up, the thought of living in the old days felt blissful. I felt I could go back to the medieval times where living was more peaceful, food, houses, bills was cheap and not enormous. I felt discipline; orderliness e.t.c was at its peak then. Oh how I used to wish I could turn back the hands of time and go live that life for a second.
But after researching to know how live was like back then, It dawned on me that most of the world scariest experiences took place in the past. There were wars, Slavery and Racism was equally at its peak. The 1960s has great cachet that was earned with sex, drugs and rock and roll. Major advances in civil rights, women rights and more came through too. 1960 was stunningly different and by that I mean far worse than it is today. This period denied women most of their fundamental rights. Even little things the men enjoyed freely. Crime rate was unbelievably. Massacres, Homicides and Genocide cases were virtually reported on a daily basis. I don’t want to have the War and slavery discussion here. It’s story for another day.
Someone once told me that in that era; almost every family had a family gun in the closet (am like okay, that’s crazy. I must have you know that I have never touched a gun. Never ever) and yet robbery occurred daily at every corner. Every time I look around my research, it’s one controversial subject to another. Subjects that will never go away.
Don’t get me wrong though as I wouldn’t take all the peaceful glamorous life away. I remember my granddad talking about life in his time. With something akin to joy in his eyes, he said “everyone were brothers and sisters and they got each other’s back and would provide, support and fight for their brothers”. He said they were more coordinated and organized and apparently corruption rate wasn’t so aggravated.
But seriously, am happy am in my generation. In this generation, we are hardworking, creative and goal getters. We’ve accomplished and still accomplishing. We’ve broken world records. We have a lot of work to still put in but we are getting there. This is me just thinking aloud. In one of my future post, I would like to envision the life of the youths in the 70’s and 80’s.
In the comment session, tell me what you think about the past and present era, also tell me how you would style your vintage outfit and finally tell me what you think this era can incorporate to be better.
I look forward to a great time with you again. Don’t forget to drop your comments, share and subscribe. Cheers.
