Happy New Month Lovelies, it’s been days and it seems like months since i last posted lol. I trust we are doing well? When we hear of the “ember month”, a lot comes to mind. First and fore most, it’s the last quarter of the year, therefore, it means the year is coming to an end, Secondly, the Myth or Fact about “ember month” being a Red season (danger), hence, we got to be careful about keeping Late Nights, accepting lifts from strangers and so on. Thirdly, while the political aspirant’s preparation for the fourth coming election gets intense, the masses are very busy deliberating on who their next leader would be. Lastly, it means December is fast approaching, and as kids, hence we are very excited about seeing Santa Claus, getting special outfits and shoes for Christmas. That feeling is incomparable.
Am from Nigeria, which happens to be the most populous Country in Western Africa and its economy is considered one of the fastest growing in the world. As a Country, Nigeria is known for being the Regional Center of West Africa. Nigeria is located at the extreme inner corner of the Gulf of Guinea along the Atlantic Ocean’s on the West Coast of Africa. Every Nigerian, well; Average Nigerian has one or two perception about the “ember month”.
For as long as i can remember, the end of every year is believed to be synonymous with increased crime rate and road traffic accidents in Nigeria. The last four months, September to December of every year is popularly referred to as “ember months” because they end with “ember” and they fall into this category. Besides, the “ember month” Myth has been so engulf in the subconscious of many that these months comes with fear and anxiety of imminent danger. With the belief about “Ember month” Myth, Religious activities conducts prayer sessions warding off evils, our parents; constantly warning us to be carefree, whilst the media get filled with safety warnings from security and road safety agencies.
Growing up, news about “ember month” being a period when bad Omen happens was everywhere. due to this news about “ember month”, we were constantly warned to always go out in groups, not to reply strangers who tries to talk or stop us lol, not to pick any items on the road for fear of being turned to yam or something. Our parents told us that this wicked people use that as a bait to lure people into their trap. Although, a lot of people has testify to this Myth about the “ember month” being real, but I have never witnessed any neither have I seen anyone who vividly admitted to the realness of this story so I guess it’s a 50-50 possibility that this story could be mere fallacy or not.
Something happened a long time ago when my brother and i were kids, they sent us on an errand. It was “ember month”. On our way, a Bus was approaching us in a very slow and in an unusual manner. So I held my brother’s hands tightly while the Bus was approaching us. As i looked towards the bus, i saw two men who then asked us to come inside the moving bus,but my brother and I looked away and kept walking, then one of the men said, hurry, come in, we got ice cream and money to give you both. my brother and i were so scared we started walking fast. The men stopped the bus and was about to come down when i started screaming and running for help still holding my brothers hand as tight as i could. The kidnappers drove off quickly.
This incident is as fresh as it was back then. Actually didn’t remember this until now. And I can’t help but wonder what would have become of us. Well we thank God Almighty for sparing our lives.
Having not to think about all these that has become a cliché affiliated with the “ember month”, rather, i believe the “ember month” it’s that time of the year where the fittest survives. I reminisce on the remaining quarter of the year, thanking God for life, my Family, all the positive energy in my life and i also revisit my 2018 goals and do a check.
Without doubt, i believe every opportunity given to us to be alive is a gift and a privilege from God that we can do better. Every dream has the ability to come to life if we channel the right energy into things that matters. Your present status might make you feel the year is coming to an end and there is possibly no time for situations to be better; you are wrong because every minute you have is an opportunity to make a difference. Every step taken gets us closer to our goals.
finally, this post cannot be complete without me talking about my outfit made by me. I carefully selected this fabric to suit this style which i penned down, and holla! it was ready. More pictures below.
